Something that Actually Matters

Photobucket

Here’s something I bet you don’t know about. Let Purple put you on. There’s a 14 year old kid by the name Jay Gaunt (http://www.jaygaunt.com/) and he’s a blues harmonica guru after only two years of playing. He has played with seasoned veterans from Tenn. to Mississippi and has even trained with a Princeton trained blues harmonica player Dr. Adam Gussow. Nevertheless, who cares about a 14 year old-blues playin’-child prodigy anyway? Here’s the real story. On Feb. 26 he will be playing a benefit show with Sammy Dee and Bruce Delaplain, two amazing blues players, at the in Denver’s Blues Club Herman’s Hideaway (http://www.hermanshideaway.com/) . The show will honor David Babak. David Babak is the Executive director of “Starfish on Broadway”- a showcase for the homeless, disabled and/or mentally insane. This show has taken over 30 homeless and mentally-ill artists onto 3 CDs to showcase their music and art. Over the last 35 years, Babak answered hundreds of emergency calls to the ER and psych wards and as a result suffered numerous needle punctures. On one unspecified occasion, David contacted Hepatitis C and this contagion now has placed David in a fight for his life with liver cancer. It is clear David will lose this fight and his fondest wishes to have “Starfish on Broadway” live on after his untimely death.

The venue Jay Gaunt will be playing at probably doesn’t seat more that 200 people and trust me; you probably won’t find too much on “Starfish on Broadway” if you googled it. It’s comforting to see that there are still people out there who have the hearts in the right place. The music industry isn’t always about money. Sometimes it’s about change. PEACE!!!!!!!! If you’re in the area check it out.
